Frida Kahlo

From the New Edition of In the Shadow of the Angel:

A society column caught Antonieta’s eye and she read down the page: “Seen with Diego Rivera at the Opera Bar last night: an extraordinary patroness of the arts and exponent of the feminist movement.  Might she be shifting her interest from politics to murals?” The item annoyed her.

She picked up “El Universal.”  There was only a brief mention of José, but on an inside page a picture of Diego and Frido Kahlo riveted her attention.  “Diego and Frida Kahlo will be married in a private civil ceremony this afternoon.” He was getting married! And hadn’t breathed a word.  It was a farewell to bachelorhood they had celebrated.  Well, the tomboyish hoyden of the prepa had finally reeled in her big fish.
